PKP Intercity strengthens the coverage of mobile networks
The national carrier, in collaboration with Poland's largest operators - Orange Polska, Play, Polkomtel (Plus network), and T-Mobile Polska, is enabling passengers to enjoy improved mobile phone coverage on trains. This innovative solution aims to enhance the travel experience, allowing for the convenient use of mobile devices for both work and relaxation.
Tomasz Gontarz, Vice President of the PKP Intercity board, emphasizes that the decision to install boosters stems from a commitment to passenger comfort, especially at a time when access to mobile telephony and the Internet has become essential. The repeaters, installed during the modernization and delivery of new rolling stock, support 5 bands: 800, 900, 1800, 2100, and 2600MHz. Configuring these mobile boosters was a complex process, requiring cooperation with cellular operators and taking into account the specific requirements of rail traffic, such as disabling the signal boosting function when crossing Poland's borders.
The first batch of 50 boosters was launched on September 1, 2023, and the second, consisting of 250 units, was completed on October 10 of the same year. It is planned that by the end of December, PKP Intercity will activate boosters in 554 carriages, continuing efforts to improve the comfort of rail travel in Poland.
