PKP Intercity connected Poland with Lithuania

PKP Intercity connected Poland with Lithuania

On December 11, the first long-distance rail connection between Poland and Lithuania was introduced. The InterCity "Hańcza" train set off from Krakow via Warsaw, Białystok, and Suwałki to check in at the Lithuanian Mockava station.

The connection allows changing at the Lithuanian station to trains of Lithuanian Railways, heading to Kaunas and Vilnius. Previously, the InterCity "Hańcza" train ran only between Krakow and Suwałki. The purchase of a combined ticket is possible both at PKP InterCity and LTG Link.

"The network of connections enabling travelers to move efficiently around Poland and to neighboring countries is constantly being developed. Daily train connections to Berlin, Prague, and Bratislava are already available to passengers from Poland. We are glad that it will also be possible to travel to Lithuania" - says Andrzej Adamczyk, Minister of Infrastructure.

The first train arrived at Mockava station without any problems, with a delay of about 3 minutes. After the arrival, passengers had to change to the Lithuanian train. The process is simplified as much as possible and takes place on one platform, almost "door to door". It was agreed that the train would wait 20 minutes before continuing its journey. The journey from Warsaw to Vilnius takes 9 hours, from Mockava to Kaunas 1 hour 20 minutes, and to Vilnius 2 hours 30 minutes.

"Together with our partner, PKP Intercity, we have implemented an international railway connection that will provide both an ecological means of travel and a cultural bond. Business travelers, young people who want to get to know the neighboring country or have fun in Kaunas, or guests intending to celebrate the 700th anniversary of Vilnius - soon everyone will be able to reach the most important cities of Lithuania by train" - said Linas Baužys, General Director of LTG Link.
