Automatic ABC gates at the airport in Gdansk
Dariusz Drelich, the Pomeranian Voivode, handed over ten ABC (Automated Border Control) gates to the Border Guard. The procedures have been significantly streamlined thanks to the automatic border checks of passengers. The automatic gates will increase airport capacity and help to maintain security.
"We are glad that the Gdańsk airport is another airport where our officers' service, specifically the border control process, will be supported by fully automated devices. Thanks to them, we gain more check-in desks. I want to emphasize that the automatic border control gates are fully integrated with the databases operated by the Border Guard. It will make it possible to determine whether a given person poses a threat to state security. What's more, verifying travelers with the data contained in their biometric identity documents will exclude the possibility of using a false or someone else's document." - said admiral Andrzej Prokopski, Commander of the Maritime Border Guard Unit.
Gdańsk became the sixth airport in Poland equipped with ABC gates. There are a total of ten automatic gates for use by travelers to and from the Non-Schengen area. Five are available in the arrivals hall, and the other five in the departures hall. The cost of installing the gates amounted to approximately PLN 4.2 million.
Only citizens of the European Union, the European Economic Community, and Switzerland over 18 years of age, using a biometric passport, can check in at the ABC gates. Polish citizens can also use the facility with a biometric ID card.
Step-by-step check-in at the ABC gate:
1. Prepare the document and approach the gate with the green arrow indicating that the gate is ready for passenger check-in.
2. Place your passport on the reader, with the personalization side with a photo. If you use your ID card, place it on the front or reverse side. Hold for a few seconds until an arrow appears on the screen and the gate door opens.
3. Go inside and stand in the designated place. Point your face at the scanner and wait until the photo is taken.
4. Next step is the verification of your fingerprints.
5. Wait until the data obtained from the document is compared with optical and electronic data, verified in ICT databases, and checked in systems.
6. After successful verification, the gate door will open, which means that the check-in was successful, and you can continue your journey.
