Lufthansa brings forward CityLine shutdown. Some Polish routes are dropping out of the schedule

Lufthansa Group has decided to shut down Lufthansa CityLine with immediate effect. From Saturday, April 18, the airline’s entire operational fleet of 27 aircraft is being removed from the schedule. For passengers in Poland, this means selected services to Frankfurt and Munich operated by CityLine are being suspended.

Update. All Cityline flights up to and including April 23, 2026 have been canceled. All flights operated by Cityline from April 24, 2026 have not been canceled, but are closed to further ticket sales. Please carefully monitor announcements regarding flights.

Ticket sales have been blocked through the end of June for flights from Rzeszów and Bydgoszcz to Frankfurt, and from Wrocław and Gdańsk to Munich. Bookings for July and the following months are still available, so the carrier is keeping some room to reorganise parts of the operation.

Lufthansa is shortening its earlier timeline

CityLine had previously been expected to end operations in 2028. That plan has now been accelerated. Lufthansa says the move is driven by higher jet fuel prices and rising costs linked to labour disputes and strikes.

The group also points to losses generated by the subsidiary. Lufthansa says the phase-out of CityLine had already been under consideration, and the current cost pressure has simply sped up the process.

Routes to Lufthansa’s two main hubs are now in question

The affected services include flights from Bydgoszcz and Rzeszów to Frankfurt, and from Wrocław and Gdańsk to Munich. So far, Lufthansa has not published a full list of routes that will be taken over by other airlines within the group.

For business travel, the issue is not limited to the cancelled sectors themselves. It also affects access to Lufthansa’s two main connecting hubs. Frankfurt and Munich channel traffic onto European and long-haul flights. A longer suspension of these services could mean less convenient connections and more frequent itinerary changes for corporate travellers.

Lufthansa has not yet published its final network plan

With CityLine being phased out, employees of the subsidiary, including cabin crew, pilots and ground staff, have been released from their duty to work. At the same time, Lufthansa says it had already offered some staff transfers to other companies within the group, including Lufthansa City Airlines. The airline is now preparing talks on an agreement and a social plan.

At this stage, the group has not released a full list of routes that will be reassigned. Some Polish services may return under a different operating structure, but there is still no confirmed network plan for the coming months.
