Belgian Icons: Tintin in the Skies

Tintin in the Skies – A New Symbol of Belgium
Brussels Airlines once again proves that it not only offers a high standard of air travel services, but also serves as an ambassador of Belgian culture. The latest Airbus A320 from Brussels Airlines is a true work of art – a tribute to one of the most recognizable heroes of European comics, Tintin, created by Hergé.
Unique Exterior Design
The aircraft is part of the exceptional “Belgian Icons” series, in which the carrier celebrates Belgium’s national heritage. This time, the inspiration comes from the world of Tintin’s adventures, especially his iconic space journeys depicted in albums such as Destination Moon and Explorers on the Moon.
From the outside, the aircraft catches the eye at first glance. The designers opted for an unusual approach – the two sides of the plane are different. On one side, we see Tintin and a Moon motif, while on the other appear his loyal dog Snowy (Milou) and the irreplaceable Captain Haddock. This makes it possible to showcase more characters without overwhelming the design. The most spectacular element, however, is the Moon rocket placed on the belly of the aircraft – a symbol of adventure that “comes to life” during every takeoff and landing.
A Cabin Like a Comic Story
The interior of the aircraft is equally impressive. The passenger cabin has been designed to continue the cosmic atmosphere known from the comics. The overhead compartments create a visual narrative resembling comic panels – from the rocket’s launch from Earth to dangerous encounters with asteroids. This experience makes passengers feel like participants in one of Tintin’s adventures.
Belgian Culture in the Clouds
The new Airbus A320 not only stands out visually, but also serves an important cultural function. Through it, Brussels Airlines promotes Belgian heritage worldwide, demonstrating how strongly local stories and characters can influence global culture.
Another addition to the Belgian Icons series is more than just an aircraft – it is a flying story of imagination, adventure, and Belgian identity, now literally taking to the skies.
