New PKP Intercity Direct Trains Connect Poland with Leipzig

PKP Intercity has launched two new direct international train services to Leipzig, Germany: IC Saxonia and IC Via Regia. The connections entered service on 14 December, together with the new annual timetable, and offer direct travel from several cities in southern and western Poland without transfers. For Polish passengers, this means a faster and more convenient rail link to one of Saxony’s key cultural and economic centres.

Two new international routes

The new services operate daily and cross the Polish-German border at Węgliniec–Horka.

IC Saxonia runs between Kraków and Leipzig, stopping in Katowice, Opole and Wrocław along the way.
IC Via Regia connects Przemyśl with Leipzig, serving Rzeszów, Kraków, Katowice, Opole and Wrocław before continuing into Germany.

Both trains operate in both directions, providing morning departures from Poland and return journeys from Leipzig later in the day.

Travel times and departures

Journey times depend on the departure city. The full trip from Przemyśl to Leipzig takes 9 hours and 52 minutes. From Kraków, the journey lasts 7 hours and 8 minutes, while passengers from Wrocław can reach Leipzig in just 3 hours and 32 minutes.

The schedule is designed to allow same-day travel without overnight stays, making the connection suitable both for tourists and business travellers.

Ticket prices and availability

PKP Intercity offers promotional fares under the Super Promo International scheme. Second-class tickets start from:

  • €23.90 (around PLN 103) from Opole or Wrocław,

  • €27.90 (around PLN 120) from Kraków or Katowice,

  • €34.90 (around PLN 150) from Rzeszów or Przemyśl.

Tickets are available online at intercity.pl, via the PKP Intercity mobile app and at ticket offices selling international tickets. Passengers can buy tickets up to six months in advance.

Onboard comfort

Each train offers more than 300 seats. First class provides 54 seats, while four second-class coaches offer 252 seats in total. All cars are equipped with air conditioning, power sockets for electronic devices and a passenger information system.

On the longer domestic sections between Przemyśl or Kraków and Wrocław, passengers can use a full dining car with freshly prepared meals. On shorter sections closer to the border, drinks and snacks are available from a minibar trolley operated by WARS staff.

Operational details

On the Kraków–Wrocław section, IC Saxonia runs combined with coaches of the IC Chełmoński service to Świnoujście. Similarly, IC Via Regia shares coaches with the IC Wyczółkowski service on the Przemyśl–Wrocław section. In both cases, the trains are split or joined in Wrocław.
