From November 2026, Poland’s mObywatel app will become part of the European Digital Identity Wallet. It will allow Polish citizens to confirm their identity across the entire European Union — when traveling or dealing with public offices and private companies.
The change stems from the government’s decision to align national law with the EU’s eIDAS 2.0 regulation (Electronic Identification, Authentication and Trust Services), which requires member states to introduce a unified digital identity system by 2026.
Once implemented, mObywatel will serve as an official electronic identity document recognized across the EU, for both individuals and organizations. It will enable users to check into hotels, rent cars, or open bank accounts abroad using only their phone.
The app will also include a free qualified electronic signature for personal use and a new trusted profile for company representatives, supporting faster digitalization of administration.
Integration with the European system marks another step toward a unified digital market, offering citizens greater convenience and fewer formalities across borders.
