Lufthansa: Free sending and receiving of messages on long-haul flights
Free messaging service on all long-haul flights
The ability to communicate with loved ones during a long flight on Lufthansa's aircraft will be available from the summer of 2025. The airline will offer unlimited messaging on its intercontinental flights. Passengers will be able to send and receive any number of messages, including photos, using their own smartphone, tablet, or popular applications. The service will be available regardless of travel class.
"The introduction of free messaging on long-haul flights is another important step in improving the overall experience of our travelers," says Dieter Vranckx, Chief Commercial Officer of Lufthansa Group. "We will continue to focus our efforts on services that are highly relevant to our passengers."
"A service that has been very successful on short- and medium-haul flights will also be extremely popular among our passengers on long-haul routes," adds Heiko Reitz, Chief Customer Officer at Lufthansa Airlines. "Being able to stay connected even during a long flight has long been a fundamental need and a key factor when choosing an airline. Free messaging, along with in-flight internet, creates a highly attractive portfolio of digital services for our customers."
Sending and receiving messages on board SWISS and Austrian Airlines
Airlines belonging to the Lufthansa Group, such as SWISS and Austrian Airlines, also offer free messaging on selected long-haul routes. This service has been available on short- and medium-haul Lufthansa flights and on numerous Austrian Airlines aircraft since 2024 and has been extremely well received.
