Kraków Airport laid the cornerstone for its new T6 terminal on 29 September 2026, with opening planned for mid-2029. The contract for the western terminal expansion is worth PLN 537.7 million net. The new section will add almost 45,000 sq m of floor space.

11 new gates and 54 passport control desks

T6 will extend the existing passenger terminal to the west. The project includes 11 new gates, three circulation towers with access to passenger boarding bridges and 54 passport control desks. It will also add 20 automated border control gates.

Arriving passengers will be handled in the new section. The ground floor will include the arrivals area and a baggage reclaim hall with six carousels. The first floor will contain waiting areas for passengers departing outside the Schengen area as well as retail and food outlets. A two-level Business Lounge is also planned.

Capacity to rise to 16 million passengers

Once T6 opens, Kraków Airport expects the terminal to handle around 16 million passengers a year. The existing infrastructure was designed for about 8 million passengers annually, while the airport expects traffic to approach 15 million passengers in 2026.

T6 is not the final stage of the expansion. Further work will include an eastern extension and refurbishment of the existing terminal. After the full programme is completed in 2032, annual capacity is expected to reach 20 million passengers.

More space for non-Schengen traffic

For passengers, the main changes will affect arrivals and non-Schengen traffic. The additional passport control desks, automated gates and waiting areas will take over some of the processes currently handled in the existing terminal.

The cornerstone ceremony did not mark the start of construction from scratch. Preparatory work had already begun, and the contractor has 36 months to complete the project. T6 is scheduled to open in mid-2029.

Two-level Business Lounge planned

The expansion will also affect business travel facilities. The project includes a two-level Business Lounge, while the additional terminal capacity will cover non-Schengen operations as well.

T6 is one of 19 projects included in Kraków Airport's New Investment Plan. The full programme is worth about PLN 4.2 billion and also covers a new runway and upgrades to other airport infrastructure. That figure is separate from the cost of the T6 terminal itself.
