More sustainable flights with Eurowings

As part of promoting sustainable development efforts, German airlines offer travelers dedicated fare options. Choosing green tariffs allows the carrier to invest in eco-friendly aviation fuels and environmental protection projects, significantly offsetting the harmful impact of CO2 emissions.

PlanetBlue Tariffs

The carrier offers travelers the PlanetBlue Light option, where an additional fee helps compensate for 100% of the CO2 emissions associated with the flight through support for high-quality climate protection projects. In the case of the PlanetBlue Plus tariff, 5% of the CO2 emissions associated with the flight are reduced through the use of sustainable aviation fuels, while the remaining 95% is compensated through environmental protection projects. With PlanetBlue Pro, sustainable fuels reduce up to 10% of the CO2 emissions associated with the flight, while 90% of the CO2 emissions are directed towards climate protection support.

Reduced aircraft weight and CO2 emissions

Airlines also pay attention to the importance of controlling aircraft weight, the reduction of which can positively impact carbon dioxide emissions. Eurowings aircraft are regularly inspected to find ways to reduce the aircraft's mass. Eurowings has reduced weight by using lighter carts, seats, and carpets, among other measures. In the future, all flight documentation will also be digital to reduce paper consumption.

Improved procedures

Eurowings also undertakes other actions aimed at reducing CO2 emissions. German airline pilots utilize wind to save fuel. Engines also operate more efficiently when regularly cleaned. On the ground, whenever possible, only one engine is used for taxiing, and ground power units are utilized.

Green initiatives

Among the carrier's green initiatives, the Eurowings project with Cologne/Bonn Airport deserves attention. As part of the undertaken actions, 6,000 trees were planted in the Königsforst nature reserve near the airport. The action was supported by the Cologne environmental organization "Planted." The number of trees planted corresponded to the number of employees and future collaborators. These are not the carrier's first steps towards environmental protection. Previously, Eurowings was involved in supporting the Königsmoor peat bog in Hamburg. Nature conservation projects help strengthen forests as natural water and air filters. Increased forest areas also support biodiversity, as they provide habitats for many different species of animals and plants, and are highly valued by residents as recreational areas.
