Warsaw Chopin Airport sets monthly passenger record

Warsaw Chopin Airport handled 2,682,750 passengers in July 2026, up 10.2% year on year. It was the highest monthly total in the airport’s history. From January through July 2026, the airport handled 14,540,768 passengers.

July tops August 2025 record

The previous monthly record was set in August 2025. July’s total was 167,140 passengers higher, or about 6.6%.

Łukasz Chaberski, CEO of PPL, said the airport must keep improving service quality and expanding infrastructure to prepare for further traffic growth.

Low-cost share rises 3 percentage points

Traditional carriers accounted for 59% of passenger traffic in July. Compared with 2025, low-cost carriers increased their share by 3 percentage points.

PPL’s data do not break down traffic by trip purpose, so they do not show the size of the corporate segment. London, Paris, Amsterdam, Brussels and Frankfurt were the most popular scheduled destinations.

Transfer passengers hold 24% share

Transfer passengers accounted for 24% of traffic. PPL also reported an increase of around 140,000 transfer passengers compared with 2025.

Marcin Danił, PPL Management Board member for finance and commercial affairs, pointed to passengers connecting in Warsaw, including those arriving from regional airports. He said transfer traffic is important to both the airport and LOT Polish Airlines.

Cargo rises 5.7%

In July 2026, Warsaw Chopin Airport handled more than 13,150 tonnes of cargo, up 5.7% from July 2025. Passenger and cargo traffic both increased during the month. Leipzig, Cologne and Dubai accounted for the largest cargo volumes.

More than 61% say modernization is needed

PPL surveyed departing passengers from January through July 2026. More than 61% said the airport’s modernization was a necessary investment. The survey covered departing passengers, not all travelers using the airport.
