Wody Polskie and PKP Intercity focus on travel safety
Wody Polskie and PKP Intercity are running a summer safety campaign for people travelling to lakes and rivers. The guidance covers the journey from home to the station, the train trip and time spent near water. The campaign sets out 10 rules for reducing risk during holiday travel.
The platform is part of the trip
The campaign, titled “Od pociągu do brzegu. Łączy nas bezpieczeństwo”, treats a trip to the water as one chain of decisions. Wody Polskie and PKP Intercity point out that safety starts before travellers reach the lake, river or marina.
For passengers, that means following station rules, boarding and leaving the train calmly, and keeping personal belongings under control. The same logic applies at the destination: no rushing, no shortcuts and no ignoring the surroundings.
Unofficial bathing spots are a risk
One of the main rules concerns where people choose to swim. Wody Polskie advises travellers not to cross railway tracks in unauthorised places and not to use unofficial bathing areas.
Before entering the water, travellers should check whether the site is listed as an official bathing area. In Poland, that register is available through the bathing service run by the Chief Sanitary Inspectorate.
The campaign also warns against jumping into unfamiliar bodies of water. Natural lake and river beds can change, while mud, algae and slippery stones can lead to falls.
Children need constant supervision
The guidance includes a separate point on children. Wody Polskie advises parents and guardians to keep children in sight throughout the trip and while staying near water.
On a boat, children should wear a life jacket. It is a basic rule, but it can be missed on short trips, family outings and casual lake visits.
Alcohol raises the risk
Wody Polskie and PKP Intercity also refer to alcohol. The rule is plain: alcohol should not be combined with travel or swimming.
Alcohol can impair judgement and slow the response to danger. Near water, that matters for swimmers, guardians and anyone operating a boat.
Weather, notices and 112
Travellers should check the weather before setting off and before entering the water. Wody Polskie also directs waterway users to navigation notices and the Wirtualny Informator Rzeczny app.
If there is a danger, travellers should react and notify the emergency services. The campaign points to the 112 emergency number. That applies to incidents at stations as well as near water.
