PKP Intercity adds more trains via Giżycko
PKP Intercity more than doubled its service to Kętrzyn, Giżycko, Ełk and Grajewo from 14 June 2026. The changes include extended services to Białystok, more trains between Białystok and Olsztyn, and a seasonal extension to Pisz.
Seven services to Białystok
The main change covers trains running via Kętrzyn, Giżycko, Ełk and Grajewo. PKP Intercity extended IC Ukiel from Poznań and IC Niegocin and IC Mamry from Wrocław to Białystok. The trains run via Olsztyn and stop at several towns in Masuria and Podlasie.
After the timetable change, passengers have 7 connections from Giżycko to Białystok, up from 4. The number of services from Giżycko, Ełk and Grajewo to Olsztyn rose from 2 to 6. The Ministry of Infrastructure linked the change to the upgraded and electrified Ełk–Korsze section.
Kętrzyn regains Warsaw link
PKP Intercity also extended IC Słowacki. The train, previously operating between Wrocław and Giżycko via Białystok, now continues to Olsztyn.
The extension restores a direct link from Korsze and Kętrzyn to Warsaw. The journey is expected to take around 4 hours. The source material says this is more than an hour faster than the comparable bus journey.
Seasonal Szczecin train reaches Pisz
For the summer season, PKP Intercity extended IC Stańczyk from Szczecin and Olsztyn to Pisz. On the new section, the train also stops in Szczytno and Ruciane-Nida.
For passengers in the southern part of Warmińsko-Mazurskie, this gives a direct train to the Tri-City area and onwards to Szczecin. The source also names Sopot, Słupsk, Sławno and Koszalin as destinations on the route.
Eight Białystok–Olsztyn services
The offer between Białystok and Olsztyn has also changed. With two new pairs of IC Orzyc and IC Omulew trains, the number of direct services between the two cities increased from 2 to 8.
The fastest Białystok–Olsztyn journey is scheduled at 2 hours 54 minutes. That is 16 minutes shorter than before. Before the modernisation works, the trip took around 4 hours.
The Biebrza train will move from TLK to the higher IC category. According to the source material, it will use modernised coaches.
Connections to Berlin and Prague
The new timetable via Giżycko also creates more onward options with transfers. Trains from Białystok via Giżycko to Poznań are planned every 4 hours, allowing onward travel to Berlin. The total journey time to the German capital is listed as 7 hours 45 minutes.
IC Niegocin and IC Ukiel are due to connect in Poznań with IC Baltic Express trains to Prague. The journey from Giżycko to the Czech capital is scheduled at 10 hours 35 minutes. A connection to Leipzig is possible in Wrocław, with a transfer from IC Niegocin to IC Via Regia.
Shorter routes for business travel
For business travel from north-eastern Poland, the main change is the higher number of direct trains to Olsztyn, Białystok, Poznań and Wrocław. The timetable reduces the need for transfers on some routes from Masuria and Podlasie.
The restored direct link from Korsze and Kętrzyn to Warsaw may also matter for company travel planning. A journey of around 4 hours can support same-day trips, provided the train times fit meeting schedules.
IC category trains are due to use new or modernised coaches with air conditioning, Wi-Fi and charging sockets. Fares on the Białystok–Toruń section start at PLN 24.
