Gdańsk climbs in AirHelp Score ranking

Gdańsk Lech Wałęsa Airport ranked 40th worldwide in the 2026 AirHelp Score, according to information published by the airport on 11 June 2026. The airport also entered Europe’s top ten and moved up 17 places from the previous edition. AirHelp assessed 279 airports in 76 countries.

40th place worldwide

According to AirHelp data cited in the source material, Gdańsk scored 7.94 out of 10. That placed it ninth in Europe, level with Cork Airport. Cork appeared higher in the table because its punctuality score was 8.1, compared with 8.0 for Gdańsk.

Gdańsk remained the highest-rated Polish airport in the ranking. Warsaw Chopin Airport ranked 64th worldwide. Gdańsk Airport said these were the only two Polish airports in the global top 100.

Punctuality carries 60 percent

AirHelp uses three components to calculate the airport score. On-time performance accounts for 60 percent of the result. Passenger experience, and facilities and comfort, account for 20 percent each. In this edition, a flight counted as on time if it arrived no more than 15 minutes after schedule.

For business travel, the ranking is an operating signal rather than a forecast for a specific flight. For corporate trips, the key checks remain the live flight status, the airline and the time needed to pass security.

Two scanners from July

The next editions of the ranking may be affected by security upgrades in Gdańsk. The airport plans to launch its first two EDSCB C3 cabin baggage scanners in July 2026. The devices use computed tomography and produce 3D images.

According to the airport, the technology allows cabin baggage to contain laptops and other large electronic devices, as well as liquids, aerosols and gels in containers of up to 2 litres. The practical change will depend on which security lanes already use the new scanners.

Target of up to 12 devices

The scanners will be supplied by a consortium of Dimark and Anglosec. The contract is worth more than PLN 9 million. After the first two devices start operating, the airport plans to order more scanners gradually.

The official statement does not give a date for a full terminal rollout. The airport says only that the target could be up to 12 scanners.
