Austrian Airlines and MAK – Museum of Applied Arts Join Forces

Wiener Werkstätte Art Takes to the Skies
Austrian Airlines and MAK – Museum of Applied Arts have launched a long-term partnership, the first result of which is a new collection of travel kits for Business Class passengers on long-haul flights. From October 2025, travelers can enjoy unique amenity kits inspired by the designs of the legendary Wiener Werkstätte – one of the most influential artistic movements of the 20th century.
The new travel kits combine design, art history, and travel comfort. Austrian Airlines has created three design collections based on archival textile patterns provided by MAK. The final look of the kits was developed by the Austrian Design Team, which created six color variations inspired by the works of leading Austrian modernist artists.
Art Above the Clouds
The project features archival patterns by three important artists associated with Wiener Werkstätte:
- Koloman Moser – a pioneer of Viennese Modernism, designer, painter, and graphic artist whose work had a major influence on the development of European design;
- Dagobert Peche – renowned for his bold forms, decorative style, and artistic contrasts;
- Mathilde Flögl – a designer of textiles, ceramics, and jewelry, known for her expressive style and artistic imagination.
Each design will be available in two color versions, allowing passengers traveling round-trip to receive different variations of the same concept. The kits are expected to remain in service for two years, with each collection available for approximately eight months.

Travel Comfort with a Designer Touch
The new travel kits include a selection of essential travel accessories: a sleep mask matching the design of the bag, socks, earplugs, a toothbrush, and toothpaste tablets. The products are packaged in paper packaging produced by Skysupply.
An additional feature is a special information band wrapped around the kit, providing passengers with background information about MAK and the artist behind the selected design.
Design as Part of Brand Identity
Austrian Airlines CEO Annette Mann emphasized the strategic importance of the collaboration with MAK:
“We are delighted to be working with MAK, one of the world’s leading museums of applied arts. Using textile designs provided by the museum, the Austrian Design Team created six versions of the new amenity kits, which will make traveling for our Business Class passengers even more pleasant and artistic.”
MAK Director General Lilli Hollein also highlighted the timeless relevance of Wiener Werkstätte aesthetics:
“Wiener Werkstätte represents a golden era of Austrian applied arts and a new aesthetic that continues to influence contemporary design to this day.”
The Beginning of a Broader Partnership
The new travel kits mark only the first stage of the cooperation between Austrian Airlines and MAK. The partners are already working on new kits for Premium Economy Class, which are expected to debut onboard in the coming months.
Through this initiative, Austrian Airlines further emphasizes its Austrian cultural heritage, demonstrating that air travel can be not only comfortable, but also aesthetically inspiring.
